Arzleralm
A picnic at 1,067m above sea level
Arzleralm is a traditional mountain hut at the foot of Innsbruck’s Nordkette — easy to reach and popular with families. From Hungerburg (reachable by the Hungerburgbahn funicular or bus line J from the city center), you can take a broad gravel road that doubles as a mountain bike trail, or opt for a steeper forest trail that gets you there in under half an hour. Here’s the trick: head up when the restaurant is closed (always on Mondays; depending on the season, Tuesdays and Wednesdays too) and you’ll have the place almost to yourself. A vending machine keeps you supplied with drinks and snacks, and if you’re lucky, you might find a sun lounger on the hill next to the Alm. Check their website for opening hours (Öffnungszeiten): arzleralm.at
