Kuang Si Waterfalls, Luang Prabang, Laos

A day at UNESCO-listed Kuang Si Waterfalls is hard to beat: multi-tiered waterfall, great nature, bear rescue center, a pool with rope swing on top, treetop platforms with breathtaking views, and a zipline course for getting back down.

To get there, cross the bridge at the bottom of the waterfalls and follow the path up the mountain – about 15 minutes. This path may be slippery after rainfalls; there are metal stairs on the other side, convenient for going down and completing the loop. At the top you’ll see a drinks shack and benches for your picnic. You could also take a short boat ride upstream to the source, offered by the kiosk guy for a few bucks. And don’t miss the fantastic outlook from the ‘The View’ cafe and zipline start – you’ll stumble across them if you keep walking. Note: the water is only blue during the dry season (November – April).
