Njegoš Mausoleum on Mount Lovćen, Montenegro

It’s a scenic drive from Cetinje up to Jezerski peak (1,660 m), where one of the world’s highest mausoleums and breathtaking views are your reward. To get to the very top, you pass a gift shop with restaurant and snack bar, climb 461 steps and walk through a marble tunnel. After visiting the mausoleum – dedicated to Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, a Montenegrin poet and philosopher – head to the scenic viewpoint behind it. If it’s too windy up there, pick another spot on the way down or indulge in some delicacies at the restaurant’s hidden terrace, which shares its entrance with the gift shop – not the obvious one you pass.
